Pros

As a manager with no supervisory responsibilities, I have freedom to work on what I see is most important to the organization

Cons

It's not a government agency, not a real business; organization lacks strong, consistent leadership, and lacks an overall sense of accountability throughout the organization.

Pros

Amtrak Mechanical is a great place to be if you are willing to get your hands dirty and work with shop personnel on a daily basis. (If not, stay away from the rail industry in general.)

Cons

Measures such as the hiring freeze and budget cuts take their toll on workforce morale, along with a poor worker safety record compared to other Class I railroads.

Pros

Work is not very difficult.

Cons

Management doesn't have a clue about managing people. It's easy to see why Amtrak is in such a financial mess.
