Badly mismanaged

Pros

The company still has vestiges of good benefits: medical is good, time off is decent, retirement is very good. The people are uncommonly loyal to the brand and community of railroaders. Many try to do a good job every day.

Cons

Management is poor. Managers are often unskilled in their roles, and help is non existent. Craft supervisors tend to be poor leaders, and allow the "tail to wag the dog". Laziness is allowed to develop in certain areas. Overtime is battled but measures to stop it are easily avoided. Technology adoption is without a clear leader or direction. Projects can run late or over budget with little consequences for business leaders.
