Pros

Best insurance I ever had

Cons

I have only worked at the Chicago Amtrak, so this is only about that. The union is like going back to the 1930s. If you have a few years in you get to go hide and sleep your whole shift. If your fat and have sonority, you don't have to even be able to climb up the locomotive, you can sleep your shift away. They find the best new guys and give them all the work. The new guys will do this until they finally figure it out and quit or just keep doing the work of all their supposed union brothers that screw em. Their is a test for the trains before they leave the yard, and if you have more than a certain amount of hours in, your not allowed to do this test FRA regulations. Guess what, yes they do it anyway and let someone else sign off on it or the foreman will. All the FRA has to do is look at paperwork done over the past year. When the FRA is seen by someone coming in the yard, their is a name called out over every ones radio, so they wake up. They treat new employees horribly Most have missing teeth with one of the best insurance dental programs out there. if anyone did a news investigation on Chicago, it would be a huge eye opener. Security would be very hard to get past now though, but who knows.
