Pros

The pay was decent and my coworkers were nice.

Cons

The company itself was very disorganized, the founder lived abroad, my boss lived in DC and only contacted me about once a day, and it seemed like they had no idea how to deal with low-income parents getting after-school financial assistance from the government. They also didn't specify what kind of benefits I would receive, only vaguely hinted at "you get 3 paid days off and we'll pay up to $3000/year of your medical insurance" but that was never confirmed or followed up on.

Pros

The coworker and site director are nice. Kids can be fun to work with and have flexibility in lesson plans. HR is really nice also and is really good to communicate with.

Cons

Whoever is applying please know that educator was paid $21-24 during 2021-2022. Looking at their website educator pay range is $16-19 now! Especially with inflation, it does not make sense to take this pay cut when they previously paid educators higher. Recess shift is not worth it and offers less pay due to the justification of "no structured activities" yet you are responsible for more than 60 students per grade. If you are understaffed for recess, you will be overworked for the same pay. Overall recess is not worth the mental health and stress.

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and we're sorry you had this experience. We are aware of the challenges that were occurring at this location at the start of this school year, and have changed the team responsible for direct management. We do have robust logistics, training, and support teams - ordering supplies and receiving the help you need is actually an easy process, and it looks like you didn't get introduced to all the tools we have available to you as a valued member of our organization. The current staff there is doing a great job, and we've received several compliments from parents - we're sorry you couldn't be there to see it! Thank you for your time with us and your contribution to our students' growth. Best regards, Sandra Sosa | HR Director

Pros

Since the organization is employed by more than one school, you are bound to find a school close to you. The students are a definite plus.

Cons

There is a huge lack of communication within the company, twice I have contacted people within the company and after receiving no response for weeks, reached out to someone new who then informed me the former person had quit/been fired. Twice! The people in the office rarely get back to emails and calls in a timely manner which disrupts the schedule of the instructors who are actually in classrooms with the students. I was not trained properly before beginning my instructor position so I did not follow the proper procedure for an injury on site and it was a game of "that person should have trained you."

Thank you for your comments. As we were replacing some management staff due to resignations there were some delays in communication. We have implemented new systems, including a level of middle management staff to increase our efficiency in responding to inquires via phone and email. In regards to training we continuously aim to improve our offerings including a 40 hour paid professional development program, monthly round table meetings and biannual all staff training/orientations. Additionally, we have a training coach who is a resource to staff with questions about curriculum, student behavior and best practices.
