Pros

Some really nice people worked for this company. Unfortunately, they've all been fired in recent months.

Cons

First of all, notice that most of the glowing reviews here are from people who have been with the company for less than one year. The turnover here is rapid, and for good reasons, such as: Bullies in management, poor or complete lack of processes for carrying out the simplest tasks, lack of adequate tools to do our jobs, too much focus on making the company look good to investors and external audiences while completely failing to address important issues that would have made the experience of working there better, some middle management not at all suited to their roles made project work a slog, very few people seemed capable of making decisions, instead we were stuck in endless meeting discussing everything to death while nothing was accomplished. Truly one of the worst places I've ever worked.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences while working at Appian. We appreciate your feedback, and take your concerns seriously. We are sorry to hear that you felt the company culture was poor, and that you had bad experiences with management, inadequate tools and processes. We value your concerns and if you are open to it, we invite you to share these thoughts with your HR Representative so they can be addressed. According to a turnover report from LinkedIn, the tech industry has the highest turnover rate at 13.2%. In fact, even global tech giants often struggle with low employee tenure. Appian is far below this statistic. We believe change can bring opportunities for growth and progress, and we are committed to creating a positive work environment for all employees. We strive to treat our employees and customers with respect, empathy and compassion at all times, and we are always looking for ways to improve. Once again, thank you for sharing your feedback, and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Layoffs and Reorganization

Pros

* Great healthcare benefits and flex leave * Culture of Inclusion * Small community-type feel despite being a fairly large and dispersed organization * Managers who are invested in your growth

Cons

* 3 days minimum in office for local employees (within 50 miles of the office). Many teams, however, have colleagues who are not local and will remain permanently remote - not very fair. Despite some employees originally being hired as completely remote, if you are within 50 miles of the office, you are now required to come in. * Many benefits (ie cafeteria weekly stipend, travel benefits to AWS, company store) have recently been suspended. * Not upfront about the organization's recent layoffs/"reorganization." Recently claimed to be "recession-proof" and promised employees there would not be layoffs - which has now proven to be untrue. * Employees are being laid off amidst the company's commitment to "aggressive new hiring".

Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback on your experiences working with Appian. We are excited to hear that you appreciate our exceptional healthcare benefits, flexible leave policies, and inclusive culture. We understand that changes to our attendance requirements, benefits, and restructuring may have been challenging for some of our employees, and we are committed to ensuring that our communication is open, transparent, and supportive during these times of transition. While we strongly believe in the value of in-person collaboration, we recognize that some of our employees were hired to work remotely and may not have access to our physical office locations. We are actively exploring innovative ways to support virtual collaboration and engagement for all our team members. At Appian, we place a high priority on investing in our employees' growth and success, and we appreciate your feedback as we continue to enhance our programs and initiatives. Thank you for your feedback and dedication to our company.

Pros

Flexible schedule, great colleagues, smart people, collaborative environment, free food on Mondays and Thursdays, free snacks and soda, everyday.

Cons

Completely out of touch leadership. Senior executives here believe their title makes them a leader. None have any idea how to motivate a team to follow. The CEO does not have any concept of strategic thinking, long range planning, empathy, or what it means to be customer focused. He links strategy to mean "the product we sell." He thinks empathy...well...he doesn't think empathy at all. He's a billionaire with zero connection to real people, real struggle and real life. So he has zero ability to actually attempt to step into someone else's shoes for a different perspective. Nor does he care to try. He thinks being customer focused is going to a meeting with a customer or taking them to dinner. Not a hint about ease of doing business, listening to a customer's needs and problems, understanding what a customer values, versus what he thinks he should be able to tell the customer to value. For the rest of the company that actually understands all three concepts, we know we are successful in spite of our executive team, not because of it.
