Pros

Coworkers and peers are friendly

Cons

Managers are not engaged with their teams, don’t care about team growth, just the bottom line, and their own agendas.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. When it comes to reviews on our Glassdoor page, we have designated leadership from each department who focuses specifically on relaying feedback internally. However, when it comes to anonymous reviews, we find it quite difficult to take specific action, as generalizing and implying that every manager within our organization is disengaged, and disinterested in overall peer growth, would be inaccurate. While we disagree that we take responses personally, we do take them seriously. We value all feedback that is posted here, and I encourage you to reach out to me directly so we can discuss some of your concerns further.

Pros

Cool location. High base pay.

Cons

As a company, they hire too quickly. Please research the evaluation, the company's financial position before you make your decision. They're very much into branding themselves but, stay there a while, the shortcomings are pretty apparent benefits - the base pay is high. However, health insurance etc are below standard. clique-ey engineering organization. not inclusive. Best idea does not win. The one that shouted loudest, or, put forth by the popular person does. some smart people but very oblivious to their own weaknesses. this is the first job for many out of college and they think this is the best place to work at. in a sample space of 1. And so, 1. they have a hard time retaining experienced people. 2. the general workplace interaction is immature to put it mildly. Might be a good company for first job out of college, but if this is not your first rodeo, best stay away

Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback even though things didn’t work out for you here. While we are scaling rapidly, our hiring plans are heavily scrutinized and planned in a way to have meaningful growth. I also second your suggestion to check our financial position before applying - it is often a strong factor in why candidates decide to join. Your point on communication style is important and something that as a company we actively invest in (e.g, DISC training for all employees, Appian MBA training for new managers) to be sure that we promote an inclusive culture where all employees are given the space to provide input, but as you point out we should keep trying to get better and we will.

Pros

Appian has some very smart, dedicated people working to try and pull the company in the right direction. You can learn a lot from them.

Cons

Unfortunately, none of those people work in company leadership. The company is still led by the same founders and their stooges, and they haven’t shown an ability to adapt to changes in the industry. Leadership is focused on the shiniest new thing in the marketplace, getting meaningless awards, and trying to validate their power with idiotic policies. They’re not focused on trying to grow the business or meaningfully adapt to a changing world. Instead of a focus on building a quality product, they prioritize flashy advertising. In short, company leadership has a complete blindness to reality and hasn’t left the 90’s. I have little faith in the long-term potential of this company.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns. We appreciate your honesty and the effort you put into describing your experience. It’s encouraging to hear that you value the talent and dedication of your colleagues. Our people are at the heart of what makes this company great, and it’s clear you recognized that. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with leadership and strategic direction left you feeling frustrated and uncertain about the company’s future. Your concerns about our ability to adapt, focus on meaningful growth, and prioritize substance over appearance are important for us to reflect on. Feedback like this reminds us that while we may be proud of certain initiatives, we must also ensure that we communicate our priorities clearly and translate how they align with building a long-term success, so we build trust across the organization. We know it’s not enough to say we value feedback—we need to demonstrate that we’re listening and open to change. Your advice about approaching feedback with humility and a mindset of understanding is well-taken and serves as a timely reminder for all of us. While we may not get it right every time, I want you to know that feedback like yours matters. It challenges us to be better. Thank you again for sharing your perspective.
