Pros

Good pay, we receive a set amount for each rank. I am an E-5(SGT) which with all pay and allowances total $3696 per month before taxes. We also receive a pay rais once per year across the board. The benefits are excellent, my family and have full medical, dental, and vision. I pay $29 per month for this coverage. I have no copays for any services to include prescriptions. Our retirement is pretty good also, after 20 years of service I will receive 50% of my base pay for the highest rank I held. I will also be able to draw retiement immediately, rather than waiting til I am 65. We also have a retirement invest plan also, called the TSP(thrift savings plan) where my contributions are diversified into stocks varying from low to high risk at my choosing.

Cons

Possibility of having to be away from my family for extended periods. This has only happend a few times through my 9 years of service.

Pros

The customers are the kindest, bravest, knowledgeable, helpful people I've ever known. The former bosses I worked with were the best mentors I could ask for. I had the room to make things happen as I saw fit. I listened to customers wants and needs & made up new menu's. I took on anything extra I could do to make the place as efficient as possible. I wanted the soldiers to have a place to bond and be able to forget their burdens for a while. The positive energy there was abundant.

Cons

Lack of sleep sometimes, no benefits, the new boss didn't have my back and made everything really hard. She didn't pay my employees for 3 months, unsafe work conditions, no bouncer at the bar and no OSHA approved ventilation system in the cafe. I asked for that for 6 years of the 8.
