Pros

I've worked at Asana for more than 3 years and beyond the amazing culture (which really is unworldly) my favorite things about working at Asana are: - Leadership transparency. Transparency is foundational at Asana and the leadership team walks the walk. From discussing annual company objectives to responding to employee questions, I'm consistently impressed with how open and honest the company is. - Responsibility. I've yet to experience a micro-manager at Asana, and I believe that's because the company strongly encourages everyone (especially individual contributors) to take full responsibility of their work and be an owner. - Career growth. If you have an idea, and spend the time/effort to highlight how that idea is worth pursuing, Asana will give you the autonomy to try it out. There's no employee siloing or compartmentalizing, everyone can step out of their swim-lane and try something new if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Cons

At Asana the pro's dramatically outshine the cons, but like any company there are nuances that can be frustrating when you first start and take some time to get used to. - Emphasis on getting everyone's input and feedback. If you're used to a top-down decision making culture where employee's are told exactly what to do and what not to do for the next 12 months then Asana will take some getting used to. Projects can take longer to get started because value is placed on ensuring every team who may be impacted by a project are brought up to speed on the context. At times this can feel like Asana is moving slowly, but after the first ~year of working here you start to wonder how people could work at a company that doesn't value context sharing and looping in stakeholders. - Office first mentality. Seeing the large silicon valley tech companies taking a progressive approach to work from home / office dynamics once COVID dies down has made Asana's decision to be a full office working company in the future feel restrictive. It would be great to intertwine some of the benefits of work-from-home with work-from-office after COVID.

Pros

No micro-management and an abundant amount of opportunity for those willing to go the extra mile. Leadership will listen (even if it takes a while to get time on their calendar) and treats employee ideas with thoughtful consideration and reflection. The ability to create your own path is available for anyone that's ambitious and driven. Culture is good, food is the unimaginably delicious, and your co-workers are happy and positive. Great vibes when entering the building.

Cons

Thoughtfulness can breed slow decision making at times, you need to have strong conviction in order to weather the storm at times. The engineering-focused systems that were set in place during the early years of the company can be difficult for business teams to gel with. Cross-functional processes and teams can be bottle-necked by one employee or key decision maker, hopefully, this will be fixed with more hiring and scaling of internal teams. Product team can portray a superiority complex at times, but when you understand that it's in the companies best interest to make sure the engineers are happy that's ok.
