HR Generalist in Dallas at the headquarters office
Pros
People are generally pleasant and polite here, and there's even a handful of really awesome managers and leaders who invest in their people, but it's kinda luck of the draw. Because headcount is fairly small at corporate office relative to company size, your role can be nimble / you get to learn and be involved in different things if you voice that you want to. Fairly easy to move teams/projects if you have good relationships with people. Very few people here are stuck up or 'too good/too high up' to help you. Overall, if pay isn't your #1 priority and you get hired by a nice manager, it's pretty easy to get by and coast along / have some stability in your life if that's what you need. Benefits are okay for single people, not for families or for certain conditions (mental health coverage means you have to opt into the most expensive plan), PTO starts at like 2 weeks. Protip: Negotiate extra PTO into your offer. It's not as stuffy and formal as a lot of other corporate offices, and when I was there (things could've changed), there wasn't a ton of micromanagement and forced participation in corporate b.s. which was nice. If you work for corporate location, nobody bothers you after 5 so good W/L balance. Overall a totally livable, stable job so long as you have a boss who's in your corner and you get the salary you want on day 1 (NEGOTIATE!).
Cons
This isn't a unique dig at Associa, but like many other family owned corporations - the people who work the hardest make the least amount of money while executive team and higher ups make a ton. Nearly zero diversity, esp the closer to the top you get, and zero diversity embraced by most people beyond words (CHRO tries, but she's one person). It's a very white, very conservative company so if you fall outside of that, you'll still be treated nicely as long as you 'play the game' a little and stay quiet about real stuff. Pay transparency is none whatsoever, pay inequality is rampant and varies wildly from one office or location to another - company is more like a small collection of companies loosely affiliated with each other so it's disjointed and unorganized, lots of tech systems don't talk to each other, there's not a go-to process for a lot of stuff for such a large co, etc. Make sure you negotiate your starting offer hard, you're very unlikely to get a significant raise or promo very often.
