Pros

Free lunch, snacks, drinks, etc. Great people to work with (at the 'grunt' level). "Amazon Subsidiary" on your resume.

Cons

Broken culture stemming from incompetence at the top levels. 8 managers in less than 3 years. Departments at war with each other. Managers fighting each other because of resource shortages. A complete lack of clear vision to align people on. VPs who are trying to help manage people they've never actually met or talked to. No communication going up the chain, but lots of orders coming down. "Always just barely shipping" culture of quality.

Great potential wasted by a company wide "yes man" culture

Pros

Amazon pretty much the most happening place in tech, decent pay, free lunch, bonus in stocks which have a major upside. Some extremely smart data scientists to work with.

Cons

This company has become the country club of short sighted selfish leadership, who encourage a "yes man" culture. If you are an out of the box thinker this may not be the place for you. Rampant politics and backstabbing happens here. In case you want a future career in politics and want to run for office or want to be the next Gaius Julius Caesar this is the place. The teams that run the business and on the key strategic aspects has an army of incompetent people who only prefer to engage in politics and step over the shoulders of hard working folks and move to the next level. Really pathetic HR team and immigration related support. If you really want to hurt your path to permanent residency you are in the right place. Things get delayed by years just because the immigration support is so lackadaisical. The leadership is absolutely blind to a long term strategy and vision for the company. All they want into hoard more stocks for the next year and play the game of oneupmanship. I have come across lots of people making big decisions here who cannot add a few cells in a spreadsheet yet walk around with so much air of their big positions and titles. The technology/engineering and analysts teams are the worst sufferers. They are treated like second class human beings on good days and like doormats on most days of the year. Projects are dropped like when they are 80% done and again they are tasked on something else that's equally likely to fail. In short in terms of innovation and strategy Audible cannot hold a candle in front of its parent company yet encourage people to hold them in the same regard. Another dangerous cultural problem here is the minion culture. Every director and above have their inner circle of minions who hang out with them, make them look good in their own eyes and sing praises of them. These minions are the real terror of this company the unproductive middle managers who just terrorize the worker bees and mould them into future minions.

To be or not to be, that is the question

Pros

RSUs, free food, apparent appearance of a tech start up. audiobook account is a great plus. Protective cover of AMZN so paycheck comes on time. It ends here - question is if money in the short term with no growth opportunity are your only drivers in life be a guest here.

Cons

Too much politics, senior leadership too arbitrary and hellbent on bringing their incapable stooges in the middle management position. No career growth unless you are part of this politics. You have to learn the art of flattering your boss laugh at his stupid jokes - this is the only ticket to a career trajectory. I have seen so many able people just languish in frustration here that there seems to be no word of comfort. Not sure who runs this company - too much reorg if any outsider or people well versed in Organizational dynamics saw this place they would label it a disaster. The HR here is one of the worst departments a. they are trained very well to low ball you offer you the worst possible deal b. if you need any immigration related help - may god bless you because all your process is handled by just one immigration Point of Contact who literally toys with every lever in your application and files so that might be of something anyone who is on a visa should consider and vet things in more detail This company used to stand for something and had a vision for the greater good, sadly it's all been flushed down the sewers by the incapable senior management that is running the place. There is blatant discrimination in performance evaluation. A person working in tech will most likely be evaluated by a person who can't tell the difference between software and tableware. Initially during the salary negotiations the recruiters will lowball you and say this is is the best offer we have for you if you don't accept we will blacklist you for good from anywhere in amazon for life. Projects are shelved in midway and end of the year they will say - you didn't have any deliverable for the year and zero business impact so no raise or you are fired depending on which side of the bed the supervisor has gotten off that day. The supervisors will say there are no set goals since we are a start up yet at the end of the year some fictitious goals will appear out of thin air and you will be judged against them.
