Good company with internal issues

Pros

Work-life balance, bonuses, pension, benefits, multiple responsibilities, knowledge about the industry, major holidays off, personal/vacation/sick time. Nice customers. Flexibility with some processes.

Cons

Unrealistic workload for one person. Cheap utilities & equipment. Training is basically read yourself to sleep, watch others until you sleep, and then it's all you. Management can make or break even the most dedicated workers with micromanagement, demands, and even interrogation. My work week is next to miserable. Little respect for women.

Decent place to work, but little to strive for

Pros

A lot of nice people. I think that most of my managers have actually wanted me to succeed, which is nice. Good work life balance (37.5 hour week). 401k matching AND a pension (fully vested after 5 years).

Cons

Not much to strive for, so its easy to get into a dead end position and have no way out. Lots of consultants, many of which have no business being in IT. Education and prior experience mean next to nothing to the company. Even the certifications/designations that they pay for you to take end up giving you a bonus (a vast majority are <$300 bonus for 3-5 exams) instead of a salary raise. Salary is quite low, and it takes 5-10 years of accruing bonuses and raises to start feeling like you are well compensated (or so I am told - haven't been there that many years yet).

Pros

Easy, low stress, traditional, stable. Easy to work for auto owners especially if you like to go to work and go home. No take home necessary.

Cons

Auto-Owners is very traditional and can be slow to adapt to change. They do not fire people very often and after you have been there for a little while people begin to slow down efficiency.
