Pros

If you like working with cars, you might enjoy it here.

Cons

Auto Zone has attempted to become the Walmart of the automotive retail aftermarket. Upper management could care less how slammed the employees on the counter are, as long as earnings per share keep increasing. They devote too little payroll and resources to training. They pay low retail wages and expect to get stellar employees.

Pros

The company is a fortune five hundred company that is #1 in the automotive auto parts sales. The company has a strong following and is putting resources into expanding inventory levels in all late model vehicles. The company has used marketing properly and the monthly promotions are bringing in more customers each week. The strategy to go after the do it for me customer has led to changes in the commercial business which has made it more profitable. New stores are being built quickly and the company continues to lead in store count in the US and in Mexico. The company has a strong DC system and is able to keep stores stocked for customers.

Cons

The company is very demanding and long hours are required weekly to properly complete all required duties. Time off is very hard to come by and employee retention is secondary to senior management. At times it seems it more about who you know than how long you have been with the company or how you are performing. The ever changing direction and changes with tight labor hours puts a huge load on all the store employees to be able to properly complete all required tasks and be able to provide the commitment to customer service the company preaches. It is very difficult to be "who we say we are" for our customers.
