Pros

Autozone is a good starting point for those just starting to enter the job market. To their credit Autozone hires many minorities, new immigrants to this country and students in need of part time work. With so many stores finding employment with Autozone in your own neighborhood is a real plus. If Retail is your chosen field the experience at Autozone can help your resume. Everyone at the store level is expected to cover all store positions from cleaning the bathrooms, inventory control, POS duty, LP and store management. After a year at an Autozone store you are truly a well rounded Retail expert.

Cons

Confusion and an over tasked agenda is an everyday challenge at Autozone for not just store employees but also field management. Communication at the executive level is very poor, so all too often conflicting tasks or projects are delegated weekly to field and store management. Autozone is very focused on stock performance and stock annalist recommendations and continue to cut expenses and labor to the point that many stores are dysfunctional and not up to company standards. Training is very poor, and almost nonexistent. New employees spend their first day on the job at an orientation meeting. The next day they are in the store and have to hope the Store Manager has a training plan in place. All training is OJT and since you are trained by a peer that follows no guidelines, since that is how they were trained, procedures and proper execution of duties is not consistent or familiar from store to store. Of concern also is that due to the high churn rate of employees there is no drug testing on new hires and some negative background checks are ignored due to the pressure to fill open positions. At the Regional level and stores most Managers do a good job and really work on calling out employees for praise for jobs well done. But at the Division and Corporate level most feedback to Regional and lower employees is mostly negative. Corporate discourages any feedback or suggestions from any level of management we all learned that one wrong statement or suggestion can lose you your job. Hence Corporate is not in touch with the realties and challenges of running a store, and also never hear suggestions that could improve operations and the bottom line.

Pros

The job itself is great! I love the parts, the store, my employees, my customers, learning new things daily even though I'm 4 years into this job, and I love being a female in a male dominated field so I can show other females that auto mechanics and the like of is not beyond them! It used to feel like coming home every time I walked through the doors.

Cons

Witt and hours. Plan and simple. Customers come, customers go, some are great, some not so much, but they all become your priority, which is what it should be. AZ portrays itself as such a customer, employee, and family orientated company, I fell hook, line, and sinker. I took the store management position after much thought and personal struggle of my time spent with my family and the job and customers I absolutely adored. The thought of not being there hurt as bad as the thought of less time with my family. In the end, I took the position. The job, the work, the time (usually 60-70 hours a week) is hard, but I push through, my family and my work family depend on me. But to work 70 hours a week, do my job with complete efficiency, and be good at what i do, and I am damn good at my job, being constantly beat down over packets of grease and lube and extras the customers don't always want and/or need, is a soul crushing thing. 70 hours away from my children and husband, completely loyal and happy customers, happy employees, and better actual earnings cash wise than the previous years, I'm still being told its not good enough because my team have not sold enough check out challenges, witt packets, or add ons, or signed up enough new people to a rewards card in a town so small, we've signed most people up 2 or 3 times! I don't need a pat on the back for the good I do, but I don't need a knife in it either over a number they think should be higher. I love my job, can't imagine my life without it, but sadly think I'm not far from stepping away from what was something I used to look forward to.

Pros

Company car. 401k and stock buying program. Room for advancement.

Cons

Payroll models for stores. Work life balance can be difficult at times due to extra workload. Micro management from corporate. Decision makers have never worked at store level.
