Pros

Easy job when you have a good team. (Very rare). Depending on the area, you get to work with interesting customers and shops.

Cons

Upper management is atrocious. The company holds an average of 60% turnover rate for a reason. They would rather a whole store quit than pay them better or support them. Its easy for them. Speaking of pay, you will get paid less then local fast food and grocery stores even in a position of "management" which is just a glorified shift lead. Even when I was performing the duties of store manager and commercial manager, I was given no real authority to run the store as I saw fit, thus the business floundered, and turnover was rampant because I couldn't solve problems and senior management would not support me. I was expected to do the job without any extra pay. Furthermore, the fact that this company expects you to work 50 hours minimum at around 50k a year without bonuses is crazy as a store manager. You should not have to rely on bonuses to survive. The culture is awful. The company would happily side with a random customer over teniered employees.

Pros

Plenty of hours. If you're a people person, plenty of people to talk to. Ability to familiarize yourself with tools and parts if you're into cars. Occasionally see cool cars. Help community members.

Cons

Always looked down on as "just a parts person." Low pay relative to the knowledge required to excel at the position. Inconsistent shift scheduling. Early opening, late closing. Small crews for closing (no more than 2-3 excluding truck). Has a low barrier to entering the position on paper, leading to people who do not understand the business or the items they sell in the slightest being put into positions where they drown. High turnover. Lack of industry-relative training. Weekly inventory and inventory position changes. Heavy lifting up to 100 lbs. PPE is hard to find or always expired despite "being provided." Lack of HAZMAT training despite carrying HAZMAT products beyond "use drying agent," "put in disposal bucket," and "use ABC fire extinguisher." Massive fire hazard on any given truck day due to lack of proper loading bay. Rodent and insect infestation of sales area. District-level management and above is inconsistent, stubborn, rude, condescending, overcompensates over non-relevant issues, and racially/sexually biased while preaching "inclusivity." Homophobic staff.

Pros

Some store managers are really great, and you will have some great coworkers. Steady hours unless it’s spring time

Cons

High stress, your always moving and the noises that are programmed in the system are meant to give you anxiety and they really do. Shops can be very rude and some of them will explode on you if something isn’t to their liking even if it’s out of your control. This is not a job for the feint of heart if you have sensory issues or can’t tolerate being yelled at this will be hell. Upper management (like district level) really don’t care about you the company as a whole doesn’t care about you they are money hungry and will cut hours for more money, your vacation time expires every March so you won’t have much to use for summer vacation with kids or family. They will tell you over and over again that your getting a raise or that they will fix an issue but never will, until you quit and then they will rush to fix everything.
