      Cool tech company is a mess

      Pros

      Coworkers, technology is interesting, has potential to grow

      Cons

      No clear direction, requirements are often vague or contradictory, a lot of small company politics in not a good way. Each person I have spoken to from the CEO on down is reasonable and has good ideas but as a whole there is a lot of directions each person wants to move without clear concensus or separation of responsibilities. The code is old and also a mess. Not clean in design or implmentation. Lots of unhandled exceptions and poor code quality.

      ASI is two different companies. One is great to work for. One is awful.

      Pros

      Interesting technology, smart but humble coworkers, never get bored. It is challenging in a good way.

      Cons

      There are basically two companies: ASI and ASI Mining. If you're lucky enough to work for ASI, you'll have a good time. If you're unfortunate enough to work for ASI Mining, it is intensely stressful, you'll be traveling further, more often, and for longer times, and several people in ASI Mining management are actively antagonistic against the engineering group. You will not enjoy it. On the other hand, if you're in the "normal" ASI outside of Mining, this job is still one of the more stressful jobs you'll have. There's an assortment of challenges to be faced everyday, and you don't always "just know" how to solve them. That's good and bad, but it is reality. There's always a fair bit of pressure to get things done fast, even at the expense of doing it the right way. More than most companies.

      Pros

      ASI has great culture. Everyone there is really awesome to work with and their people are their greatest asset. The comany has great work/life balance. The industry that we are working in is really exciting and we are paving the way for others.

      Cons

      There is some work to get to released products in all the markets that ASI is targetting. The location is remote and the company encourages coming into the office weekly. I am about 2 hours from the office and come in once or twice a month instead of weekly.
