Great place to work

Pros

The people at ASI are amazing to work with. We have challenging engineering problems to solve in the autonomous vehicle industry. The benefits are great. I feel with the vision for taking autonomous vehicles to the world in several industries I can spend my entire career here.

Cons

Bringing a reliable safe product to market has taken many years as requirements and technology continue to evolve. It would be nice to see this mature at a more rapid pace. Like any work place there can be challenging days that can be frustrating.

Pros

Small company. Great people to work around. Very interesting work across a variety of technical challenges. Mel is sincerely interested in the well-being of the employees and wants the company to succeed. The Torries are amazing to work for! Each person gets the opportunity to do a wide variety of things for a given project. Great compensation and benefits overall.

Cons

Distinct boundaries for teams have not been defined -- both for per-person and team tasks. Some managers feel free to ask anyone in the company to do a task or to travel without going through the proper channels (like asking the person's manager). Some teams fail to coordinate with one another and hiccups result. Its a little bit of a drive from Logan or Tremonton. Funding sources are not always consistent. Some managers are not technical and projects fail because they turn a blind eye to technical debt or designs/advice from engineers, because they want to "please the customer" in a very reactive fashion.

The little engine that could

Pros

Exciting field with tons of potential. Still small enough that your contribution makes a difference. Good people trying to do their best.

Cons

Funding model makes scaling up challenging. Company and culture are still maturing.

Your subject line caught my eye, "The Little Engine That Could". We especially liked the word "could". With such rapid growth lately here at ASI, we've become stronger together as co-workers realizing when the learning curve seems to steep to climb, we can give encouragement to one another to realize we can and will reach the top. Funding does have it's obstacles, but with new business partners being exposed to our innovative solutions, we are gradually becoming a global name. If you ever have solutions on how ASI's culture can "mature", we'd like to hear your ideas. We want to make sure management is setting those examples, first and for most. You can submit feedback/comment on ASI's intranet. Thanks again for commenting.
