Pros

Bonuses are scheduled to be issued quarterly.

Cons

While working for a single company for one's entire career has largely gone out of style, the dedication required to stay through thick and thin is admirable. This company at it's core has a fair number of"lifers" on the management team. This can be a good thing. Unfortunately, in this case it has made the core closed-minded and arrogant. If you are an experienced professional with specialized expertise in any component of the financial world, please do not let them waste your time and talents. They will always know more than the expert they hired. While bonuses are supposed to be quarterly, feedback and performance reviews are often late. While on the surface the grass may appear greener; watch out for the leaking septic tank beneath.

Pros

Benefits are decent, but out of pocket expenses can end up being relatively high. The match on the 401k is generous and being able to sell back your sick time at the end of the year once you reach the maximum accrual is very nice. Also, that probably takes five years to accrue, so that has its pros and cons too. Being a new hire is no fun here as the company does not integrate new employees well into the organization. Very poor in my opinion. You just do not know what to expect and at times are baffled or floored by statements managers make.

Cons

As another reviewer mentioned, poor upper management and a lot of “tattle-tailing” and “nit-picking” amongst peers. At this point, I am just not quite sure if individuals are tasked with watching one another or most of my colleagues are just this way, which would make any job unbearable to go to. Hours are traditional and not very flexible to the point where you do not want to even ask for any time off, but some managers are able to work retail hours such as 10-7. Managers definitely do not lead by example and are unaware of their own perception by subordinates. At times it is flexible, but you will also get the “let’s not make it a habit” speech. I have heard that from several peers in different departments. I suppose it is fair to say that there is no flexibility, but on the rare occasion there is, always remember you are being judged. Leave your brain at the door because this is a “Yes” place. Do not ask questions or bring ideas to the table because you will be shot down. As most other small banks, executive management is way too involved to allow employees to be innovative or progress in any way shape or form. If you have been in the industry long enough, then you are able to compare small bank culture to big bank culture, which makes it easy to see why turnover is high and it is a revolving door in Human Resources. The soon to be CEO has her reigns over the entire bank, so makes it impossible to evolve in your position or advance because everything and anything needs her “blessing”. If you have the chance to be under the CEO, then you’ll likely evolve and learn, but the rest of management not so much. No department is independent or roles etc. meaning the CEO knows and runs all of it. Not a lot of drama, but never trust anyone as most are just attempting to elevate themselves in the eyes of management by making you look incompetent and unruly. Always be careful making statements because this organization takes every word you say personal. Do not go to human resources because you will essentially be placing a target on your back. It is literally a Yes place just nod and smile and do as your told. There is no training and even at times I am not sure they even know what they want. Very reactive environment. There is nothing proactive about this place. You could be tasked with projects and not receive any feedback for months and when you finally do, they want you to incorporate the feedback within the same business day. In some ways you feel as if they are setting you up for failure. On more than one occasion, I was asked to do small projects and/or updates with little to no notice and to use the material for meetings scheduled the same day. In all honesty, if you want to be stagnant and need a steady paycheck, then this is your place. This place hindered my growth and did not allow me to reach my full potential because the manager did not bother to invest or help develop me. If I stayed any longer, I would have imploded as my brain was already turning into mush. We all get comfortable, but if you have real talent and want to progress, then make this place a pit stop or stepping stone into a real career.
