Pros

"Status" job with excellent benefits package. Continuing education is promoted for all positions; liberal paid holidays, company-sponsored wellness program, but Krispy Kreme doughnuts every Friday!

Cons

HEAVY workload, unreasonable management expectations of producers and support staff. Producers are held to new sales goals in soft market that are difficult to attain while under the pressure to retain >95% of renewals. Bonus for support staff is dependent upon these unreasonable goals, but we have very little control over the success or the outcome.

Pros

Upper management is wonderful. District and Regional managers really care about employees. I was approached for a promotion after only a year within the company. I have witnessed upper management go to bat to keep employees within the company, or to help them keep employment when moving out of state. Lots of room for advancement. Competitive salary. Awesome benefits and great programs to help assess health and lower the cost of benefits even more. Generous PTO and vacation purchase programs.

Cons

Branch assistance is minimal. It is not for lack of trying; the company just doesn't have enough staff to support. Often times, I have been left with one other person to run a branch for a week. This, of course, creates client frustration, and the employees take the brunt of that. Hold times on technology support phone lines are often times 5-6 hours. This lack of support creates high turnover. It is difficult to get new hires into the appropriate classes, (sometimes over a month-long wait, which means that it takes 2 months from hire to truly have the employee up and running), which further adds to the issue.

No work/life balance

Pros

PTO is good if you have worked there a long time. The insurance was good for a single person but expensive for a family.

Cons

No work/life balance. Always understaffed. They had enough employees for an average day if everyone was in the office but with a large department there is always someone out on vacation/sick and employees were always struggling to get work done. Overtime was expected everyday, sometimes not getting home until 9pm at night some nights. Not a good work environment for employees who have children they have to pick up by a certain time. And if you had to leave you were looked down upon because you weren't contributing. They expected work to come first and family second. Managers micromanaged the supervisors and staff.
