Pros

Excellent colleagues and stimulating work ethic in the government agencies. Especially if you pick one with the right CEO or Chairman who you can believe in and get behind.I was lucky to work for some brilliant people.

Cons

Continual cutbacks and restructures mean you end up reapplying for your own or new jobs every 18 months or so. I went through 6 restructures in 12 years. No security I'm afraid and very unsettling. The career civil servants tend to get preference over industry professionals which is a shame. To succeed you have to look as if your making things happen rather than doing what's most prudent for the electorate and the ministers you work for.
