Pros

Blue and Red color scheme is nice, Microsoft Teams is convenient.

Cons

BMO is a very strange place to work for. Management uses gaslighting to coach employees and sales is heavily pushed. The confusing part is, people that are actually good at sales can bring a client in and the moment they do, the process breaks down as the process is not equipped to handle West Coast clientele. Also, all areas of support are met with bad attitudes and it’s confusing as to why. BMO does not have a strong product at all, process is weak so why all the bad attitudes? One way or another this will be exposed as many employees, especially legacy BOTW employees have taken notice. The mortgage division can’t even keep a division leader more than 6 months, that speaks volumes to the management model of executive leadership which is likely toxic. BMO reminds me of that one school yard kid that wants to compete with the big boys (Chase, Wells Fargo, US Bank), shows up to football practice with no equipment but still expected to perform, that’s the BMO way. Sadly I would not recommend working here until it’s fixed, you will risk your reputation as many top producing talent have already realized this and left. Save yourself and your reputation and stay far away from this subpar bank. Maybe one day it’ll get there but for now BMOs presence in the West Coast is viewed as an industry laughingstock.

It's a mixed bag ...

Pros

Competitive Pay, Rewards Performance, Commitment to providing a Work Life Balance, Team Focused Environment, room for career growth, company of this size offers variety of career paths and opportunities. By the way, Mark Furlong is no longer with the bank ... and yes, this is a PRO. CEO is Bill Downe

Cons

Only High Deductible Insurance Plans Offered, All the bureaucratic trappings (slow, plodding, unresponsive) of a large corporation (Hard to get things done without being swamped with paperwork and process), outsourced HR is impersonal, slow and ineffective. Work Culture differences common between Canadian Leadership and US Based contributors. Contractor to employee ratio nearly 2:1 in many technology areas.

Deceived

Pros

Current flexibility is good, but that’s changing

Cons

I recently joined and couldn’t be more disappointed. When I interviewed, there was promise of 3 days remote, which is the key reason why I even applied. Today, June 26, 2025 they flipped and are moving to 4 days in person starting September 15th. This bait and switch has really ruined my experience. The pay was lower than what I was looking for, but I took the pay cut because of the remote flexibility. With that gone, I would have never accepted this job.
