Pros

- Work from home, standard benefits (401k, dental, vision, life)

Cons

A precursor to all the positive reviews are that HR begs the staff and seniors to write good reviews and incentivize them with bonuses if they praise the company. -Above the supervisor level, management is virtually non-existent. Work sits unreviewed for months on end, emails go unanswered, and forget about getting any help or guidance on open items or questions you may have. It's as if they're actively trying to sabotage their own workforce. -Client books provided are an absolute mess. Illegible doesn't even begin to describe them. Instead of focusing on the tasks at hand, you're forced to play detective and decipher what should be basic accounting information. It's essentially doing the job of a GAAP and Tax accountant combined. -Onboarding is a joke. Three pre-recorded Zoom call videos that have no relevance to the actual work you'll be doing hardly qualify as training. -The company practices silent layoffs every quarter. You never know when the axe will fall, creating a toxic atmosphere of uncertainty and fear. -The overwhelming majority of employees below management level regret accepting a job offer here. That sentiment speaks volumes about the toxic culture and environment within the firm. -The pay is insulting. It's below market rate, and don't even dream of yearly compensation increases for the cost of living - they simply don't exist. Promotions come with negligible pay increases, and yearly bonuses are practically nothing. -The distribution of work to reach budgeted hours is a disaster. Rather than efficiently allocating tasks, you're left scrambling to beg, borrow, and steal hours from every department just to meet your billable hour goal. And when targets aren't met, management is quick to shift the blame onto their overworked and underappreciated employees.

Pros

There were some nice people

Cons

Lots of process and software changes that do not make sense Long hours - there's a minimum but you're expected to work way more than that. They want to reduce hours worked but the charge hours keep increasing as the company gets closer to the deadline. Some employees work 70-80 hour weeks just to be "lucky enough" to get even 60 billable hours Salary is not at market, competitive, or fair - new hires for levels below me were paid as much as me Laid off with no explanation Receiving final pay and severance pay after being laid off took a long time - even sending emails to follow up, don't expect a response from HR No room for career growth Noticed lots of "inner circles" and favoritism. Can't move up without being in the circle You need to watch your own back here. No one will advocate for you. Lots of conflicting instructions making it hard to get work done within budgeted hours No work/life balance - forget about family obligations. "You don't get paid to take care of family." CEO mentions "we are ahead of the times" but they are so behind Firm boasts that no other firm provides the same research tools that BPM makes available to employees but all research tools provided to employees are used at other firms Not very much help/assistance from higher management You're expected to know everything after a training. The trainings aren't very good quality and the notes are not very useful. There are lots of trainings right before the season starts (normally two 2-hour trainings a day for 2 weeks) but you're also expected to STILL meet the 55-60 billable hour charge goal. Used floating cultural holiday for my culture's new year and was denied Not exactly sure what the values of the firm are. "Because People Matter" - Employees and clientele don't really matter here unless the employees can bring in money and clients can pay $5k minimum for a simple W-2 return Lots of mental and emotional stress - not worth the pay. You're really just a number here that can be replaced at any time. You can get 100 tax returns out AND be under the budget hours for every client you work on (this should be a good thing), have availability to take on more work and STILL be laid off while someone else who worked on only 20 returns, exceeded the budgeted hours for majority of the clients and they wpuld STILL keep their job because they met their budget billable charge goals for the week.
