Pros

You get OT and you work with decent people (some just don't know how to do anything) you gain a lot of experience because they put you out there.

Cons

What can I say here. It is absurd how they treat you and it is ridiculous how many promises they make that they will not keep! There's been times that RA's do not take a lunch and they definitely never take breaks. Upper management promises to help but they never do and if they do you end up having to correct their mistakes or they do not finish it all the way thru. I think it's completely amusing how they say they care about the staff when they don't. Studies are not always performed at their best since some are last minute or don't have enough staff to run them properly. I would recommend to not even consider this place! Make yourself a favor and go somewhere else, you will be better off. You will be thrown into studies without having experience. Even for GLP. If you do not know how to do something they will teach you during the study which is not ok, that is not the correct way to train someone. They do NOT follow correct GLP procedures. They fake paperwork saying you are trained for something when you are not or they will sign you off right AFTER the study is over in case they get audited. I am honestly not sure how this company is still open. Also I think it is funny how they have someone write positive reviews in a single day to try to make this company look better! News flash it doesn't, it makes you look petty! Trying so hard but everyone knows they are all fake. This company is very money hungry its pretty sad. There's better companies out there don't bother with this one.

Abuse of employees and animals

Pros

Employees had developed relationships and loyalty to customers. For that reason they put up with the management until it became intolerable.

Cons

When I was there I saw documentation of results where mice were allowed to grow their tumors way beyond the protocol specified size and the IACUC specified size. The data would be presented to the company but it would be ignored. Once I saw an employee forced out because he wouldn't support use of a dog model for a inexperienced technician to train others for a spinal surgery. A new facility was built but it was designed and built by 'friends' at a lesser cost and that didn't know how to conform to specifications. There were air transfer problems, temperature problems, drainage problems. The manage tried to fake that we were ready for radioactive studies but we had no safety officer or anyone knowledgeable enough to guarantee there would be no risk. These types of incidences were very common and these written here are just a few of the more serious infractions. I'm very frustrated by the string of good reviews. The format and dates are very suspicious and I don't see how they could be genuine.

Pros

I valued the hard working team of people I worked with and keep in touch to this day. You may make contacts that will help you get out of this place more quickly.

Cons

I often think back to this miserable time in my life and career and beyond the mistreatment of personnel at BTS, what haunts me are some of the 'studies' that were performed, merely because somebody had money on offer. It is likely that BTS was the last port of call for some of these 'studies' and that more reputable companies refused the opportunity. One that really sticks in my mind was assessment of a medical device in obese dogs. These dogs were kept in rabbit cages to keep them fat due to lack of activity. That's right - fully grown, obese dogs were kept in rabbit cages! There were other options proposed by several employees that with minimal cost would have given each dog a small run - but these were all refused by the owners who also interfered with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. The refusal to give each dog a small run was purely financial and totally ignored animal welfare. The husbandry staff were supposed to let them out for one hour per day but that was not happening - every time I had to pass through that room, I had tears in my eyes as these dogs would way their tails, craving any type of contact. The husbandry staff who were meant to let them out easy day were the same ones who would not change a rabbit cage liner even though the pan was overflowing with urine - the reason was because it was not the scheduled day to change the pan liners! I had tears in my eyes in the rabbit room from the ammonia. Zero engagement. Zero cares given. These owners lack even the most basic understanding of study design and conduct and every decision on animal welfare is driven by money. Just money.
