Pros

BambooHR is a very safe choice. The company is doing well, outlook is reasonable, things are stable. Benefits are very good, culture is friendly and chill, pay is reasonable. It's a source of a reliable paycheck.

Cons

None of the people I worked with were passionate about the company or the product. Everyone showed up, put in their hours, then went home and checked out. It was just a job for everyone - just a way to get a paycheck. I once had a manager tell me that there wasn't any more work for me to do, so I should just go watch Youtube. At the same time, everything was micromanaged. Every ticket was prepared by a manager, and I couldn't work on anything unless my manager gave me the work. There was no "find the next important problem" or "try and see where you can be valuable." It was just "do what your manager tells you to." I was just a cog in the machine, not expected to care about the product or the big picture, just keep my head down and complete the slow stream of tickets that came my direction. That same manager once told me that he preferred working in an office because it made it easier to watch the team and make sure everyone was still working. The separation between engineering and devops was an issue as well. The engineers are not allowed to touch anything to do with infrastructure. This has a couple negative effects: - The engineers feel no sense of ownership over what they build. If they release something that reduces site performance, that's a devops issue. Not their problem. - The engineers are not empowered to solve problems with infrastructure. I once suggested using AWS Lambda to solve a problem, and the response was "yeah, that would be nice, if we were allowed to touch the infrastructure." BambooHR gets many awards and a lot of recognition for being a very good place to work. In my experience, it's a great place for a certain type of person. If you're looking for somewhere fast-paced, where you can drive business impact, really take ownership over your work, and find and solve business-critical problems, BambooHR is not the place for you.

Amazing company but culture is dwindling

Pros

I’ve worked at dozens of companies and can confidently say that the people are what makes this organization great! Employees believe in and practice each value. Collaboration is constantly taking place and it’s a pretty uplifting atmosphere to work in. The benefits are also unique and well thought out. The HR team does a solid job at researching what’s best and making it happen for each employee. The product is nearly flawless. Love what the developers have created. With the recent acquisition, I have no doubt that the organization will continue to sell sell sell. I just hope the customers remain happy if the employees are not.

Cons

I always knew growing pains were a struggle for Bamboo but when they hired an executive for the marketing team, it all went downhill. Most marketing employees are no longer happy and everything is being changed due to this leadership change. Ben, Ryan & Kent are absolutely wonderful but are more hands-off than they were a couple years ago. They’re the three who truly want to keep the culture alive but have allowed others to completely rule that.

Thanks for being part of the Bamboo team for so many years. It sounds like you really enjoyed your co-workers and the culture we strive to live. Thank you for sharing your concern about how we listen to employees. Using eNPS is one of several ways that we gather feedback from employees on what is going well and areas for potential change, and we're sorry if you got the impression that we don't take it seriously. As for individual Bambooligans, we believe in growing people. That includes everyone from the newest hires to members of the executive team. Every Bambooligan is encouraged and coached to grow from good to great, and the reality is, that takes support and time. We strive to create a safe space where individuals can get and give direct feedback from all levels and it’s critical that everyone encourages and supports the process of growth and change. Great Career, Great Life

Pros

I love working for a company that values my career growth, happiness, and ability to have a personal life. People all over the organization (CEO to HR to my manager) work with me to accomplish career goals and grow. They offer a lot of great benefits (like paid paid vacation and financial education), but what it's all centered around is helping people be balanced in all aspects of their lives. It's rare to find an employer who actually values that.

Cons

No company is perfect. There are growing pains and misunderstandings. What's unique about Bamboo is that everyone is encouraged to voice their suggestions or struggles and management actually cares about fixing the problems. Sure, sometimes fixes aren't immediate, but concerns are always addressed and everyone is genuinely doing the best they can.
