      Pros

      The people are great. The pay is above average for the expected amount of work.

      Cons

      Big place with lots of people. Naturally, not everybody can be a star performer. Some people cause more confusion and harm than value. Large legacy code bases with below average technical training make adopting good techniques an uphill battle. Many manual processes causing DevOps to be much more Ops than Dev. It is very easy to get sucked into feeling like you've not delivered enough value during the day, causing pressure to work extra on personal time.

      Pros

      Barclays differs on a team by team basis. Overall, the company has some cool perks such as free tickets to sporting games at random times, a cafateria, and a matching 401k.

      Cons

      Filled with consultants tons and tons of them. The company is a productivity nightmare. Engineering management is full of incompetent technically unsavy managers who run outsourced teams in Pune. Most software engineers are mediocre at best with bare minimum skills. Most employees are foreign on various Visas hired at lower than market rate.

      Pros

      Relaxed environment, many people wear jeans and a polo. Fun place to work, all kinds of fun events and parties. They even have a 4 day ping pong tournament every year. Good salary.

      Cons

      Barclaycard is not treated as well as Barclays Capital. When the investment bank screwed up with the libor scandal, they cut our bonuses to pay the investment bankers more in bonus even though we had record profits that year and the investment bank's profits were down.
