Pros
The Baylor staff community is strong. BU students are incredible. Benefits are excellent. There is always something fun going on on a vibrant, beautiful campus. The mix of Christian faith and Big 12 sports obviously has made for some unique challenges, but it also makes for a one-of-a-kind university. My own faith has grown considerably since going to work for Baylor. After 15 years at another "Christian" university, I've found the faith at Baylor to be very practical and hands-on. It's about relationships and caring for people. Middle management at Baylor (Vice Presidents, deans, AVPs, etc.) is exceptional. These leaders are hard-working and truly provide low-level guys like me with both great management and direction, but they also embody the idea of "servant leadership." I've seen the dean in my area give up nights and weekends to help and support a single student who is struggling, not letting one fall through the cracks. It's rare in higher education to find the level of personal support students get at Baylor, especially at a university this large.
Cons
As an employer, Baylor has many of the same cons as all other universities: you can make a great deal more income in industry than higher education. Upward mobility is limited. Bureaucracy can make change come slowly. I enjoy the energy of working on a college campus enough to overlook these in my own career, but they do exist at BU as much as any other university.
