Pros

ROWE! Not sure if it is still being used but when I was there they were using a Results Oriented Work Environment. It didn't matter when you were at work as long as the yob tou were hired to perform was getting done. If it takes me 6 hours to do my job and you take 8, why should I have to sit in my chair 2 hours longer. You can also get your work done at home and not even have to come in every day which was great because the commute to Richfield can be a nightmare.

Cons

Too many meetings, not enough "desk time" to do the work that needed to get done. Many days I would have a total of 60-90 minutes at my desk all day. The rest of the time I was at a meeting for one committee or another. VERY young workforce in some areas made it difficult to be the one that had to go home for a sick child.

Pros

You do get an opportunity to learn quite a bit about doing repairs to hardware as well as removing viruses but most of that is quite basic. All challenging problems get sent out to the service center. You can also get tons of experience working with irritated customers as sadly they come in irritated far more often than not. The pace of work is usually pretty fast and challenging when there's customers coming in and you're trying to get to all of them at once so you're rarely bored. I can't think of anything else good to say about my job at Geek Squad.

Cons

Oh let me list the things! First of all, say goodbye to your social life because they never give you a consistent schedule. You never know your schedule more than a week ahead of time so it's impossible to make plans because you never know when you'll be off. Also from my experience the managers within Geek Squad are all horrible. My first manager got arrested for stealing from the store and now my next manager acts like a dictator of a country, he thinks he's encouraging but really he's just annoying all of us to death. Expect a bad manager. Also when you first start, don't expect more than 1 day of training even though their system and rules and such require a lot more learning than they think it does.

Pros

Let me preface this by saying it was my first job and worked here for just under a year: - Great management: They care a lot about you as an individual, and if you aren't meeting metrics, they will try to help you rather than scold you for bad performance. - Team Bonding: The store tends to have a day or two a month where either the management or a brand ambassador will bring in food, and the team itself is very intertwined, and everyone knows the entire team by name. - Career Mobility for Management: If you want to work at BBY for a career, go down the management route; while being a consultant can be lucrative, it is volatile and heavily competitive, whereas management gives the most growth opportunity for someone looking to thrive.

Cons

- Favoritism: Some stores are given favoritism, as in any job, and management doesn't do a great job at ensuring that the team is equally splitting the load at times. - Expectation to Know All: After you gain a bit of seniority, you are typically paid less than recruits, have to work ALL departments as a fill-in, and walk across the store all day; it gets exhausting talking about 15 different types of products and getting/loading product for customers.
