Pros

Great B.E.S.T training. Mr. Cecil (the owner) tries to come and meet every training class and welcome new employees. Fantastic management and exceptional co-workers. Everyone is professional, no matter what position. The thing I enjoyed the most was being allowed and encouraged to go above and beyond for customers. My supervisors at the Carriage House Gift Shops always set a great example about how to treat others.

Cons

There isn't much room to grow. You could potentially jump up to a Supervisor after a few years, but this place is so competitive to work at that everyone else around you (even working the cash register) has a college degree and 25 years professional experience. We work there because we love the environment and co-workers. I dreamed of making it to the corporate side, but it just never happened. Also the starting pay is $9.00 usually.

Pros

It's a beautiful place and employees have access to the Estate. The family who owns the company is wonderful.

Cons

Some guests are extremely high maintenance and during busy seasons this can sometimes be stressful. The pay stinks. You will not be allowed to have 2 days off in a row- a crazy policy that doesn't allow for much work-life balance! There is not a lot of consistency between supervisors, and you can get a different answer to the same policy question based upon who you ask/their mood. Employees are encouraged to share their opinion, but then get in trouble. Don't think this is a foot in the door. I never saw anyone promoted to work in another area of the company, and there's very little room for growth with this department.
