Kind Culture with Relatively Low Pay

Pros

Very positive work environment, very respectful management and co-workers. Decent benefits for part-time employees including an on-site medical clinic and free admission to grounds with family and friends. 40% discount on Biltmore products.

Cons

Mostly pay and the difficulty to transfer to Full-Time. The schedule can also be very difficult to coordinate around if you are a student looking for part-time work, but they are usually very accomodating. Can be very difficult to move up professionally because there is quite a bit of nepotism on the corporate side of the organization.

Pros

Love the history, grounds, guests and esp. fellow employees truly work as a team. Have gained tremendous knowledge in short time.

Cons

They do not pay a living wage. Very physical job (which is fine) but it is thankless. Schedules are rarely posted more than a week ahead. Shifts are frequently changed when you get to work. No consistency. No one believes the supervisors have our backs. If you make good tips, they cut your pay.

On-site clinic. Lots of discounts on property and off.

Cons

Pay is low. I believe Biltmore should do a better job of leading by example, as it's the 3rd or 4th biggest employer in the area. Leading by example in pay and accountability to top tier management teams. There should be an on-site employee gym or multiple steeply discounted gym membership option. Example, YWCA, YMCA, Gold's Gym, etc...
