Pros

Several of the employees were hard working individuals. Most of the Direct labor force were very friendly. The direct labor employees tried to make the best of their situation.

Cons

Way to many to list so I will address some of the top issues. 1) Basically anyone at a Manager level or above is "stuck" in non-inventive cover their ass mode. In short -- Paralysis. 2) The company is and has been getting rid of all of the talented personnel they had hired over the 2006 to 2007 time period. Only pencil pushing "yes" men/woman are left. 3) Strategically made a major mistake of vertically integrating machining, forming & producing of metal components. Long time "good ole boys" wanted to expand their "empire" so they invested in bricks and mortar type of operations. The long term effect is that Blue Bird will not & can not be competitive with the buses they produce.

Pros

I loved working for Blue Bird. The company is originally a Christian Company so at its core it has good values. There are 13 holidays observed last I was there. The Macon offices had free coffee. Depending on your manager they work with you if you are sick or your child has a soccer game. You get 2 weeks vacation and that does not increase until you've been employed for 6 year.

Cons

I had 2 really awful managers. They micromanaged and didn't seem to care about the people below them. The only way to fix that is to move to another department. They don't tend to fire bad management. The office in Macon is your basic cubicle farm, germs spread easily. Raises aren't really given, at most they give adjustments to your pay with the cost of living. The last one I had was 2.6% . There is no employee recognition, not for years severed, not for excellent work, nothing. Training for positions is seriously lacking. As well as continued learning.
