Pros

A good experience for those who want to teach. The school I was at was good. I liked the parents who show dedication to school involvement.

Cons

My coordinator was terrible, a complete joke! Obnoxious and unreasonable. I detest DPS completely. TAKES 8% OF YOUR PAYCHECK OUT BEFORE TAXES. It's a REQUIRED RETIRED PLAN. It's robbery. The process to get hired is a joke. DPS makes it such a hassle. Math Fellows fails to inform you about a lot of things. DON'T DO IT!

Pros

Great chance to consider education as a career, great option for a service year, they do good work in schools, and a great atmosphere to work in.

Cons

The compensation is better than Americorps, city year, TFA, etc, but still you are barely making enough to live off of.

Good Experience, Working out the kinks

Pros

-It is what you make of it. You can have a great experience if you work hard at it. -You'll see growth almost no matter what. -It varies, but fellows were mostly young (at my school), nice people who cared about the job

Cons

-Poor leadership -Poor organization The program is only 2 years old in Denver. Many of the coordinators are new. The central leadership is disconnected which would be fine if the materials we relied on them for were well put together. We spent more time making curriculum and proofing what was sent to us than learning how to teach our kids. If they would get organized they could get way more out of the program.
