Pros

Great people in Pittsburgh; interesting work and technology

Cons

Everyone outside of Pittsburgh! They've taken what was once a successful and profitable business, and run it into the ground. Workers leaving or being let go in droves... The best people mover systems in the world, now the company can't compete and all the changes they've made have made the company LESS capable to win jobs, execute contracts, and operate systems. Great idea: build the cars in Mexico and sell the manufacturing plant and test track. Oh wait, we don't have a test track anywhere else except West Mifflin! Now what??? Oh, lets ask our customers to let us test the cars on THEIR systems! BT Canada has NO CLUE what they are doing. SHAMEFUL.

Pros

I worked on the maintenance (services) side of the company at two different locations. It is a good place to learn technical stuff, get some hand on experience. At most places, Bombardier has a fairly modern equipment to work on. People up to management level are very good.

Cons

In about 2005 the company changed their top management in Canada. Since then, the company went into nose dive. The company went to make “quick” money. Technical education was cut to almost zero. Technical processes “cut corners”. Management does not care about employees at all. Do not expect any recognition at the company. You may get promotion if you are friend, relative or sexual partner of somebody on top. Salary sucks. Not a good place for talented people. Almost all people I’ve worked with quit Bombardier.

Pros

If you are a hard worker you, you can stand out from the crowd. There is always plenty of work to be done, you should never be bored.

Cons

Management tends to let many people go along without producing anything for the company for a very long time, meanwhile the better employees get bombarded with work and struggle to keep up. However, most of the time, the ones working their tails off are getting the same pay or less than the ones surfing the web most of the day. This is one of the top reasons I'm looking to go somewhere else. They also pay less than many companies would for people with a strong skill set. Oh, but they pay contractors very well, then bring them on permanently for a salary much higher than the those people that have been there 5-8+ years already and working their tails off to get a tiny raise each year!! (Another significant reason why I am looking to leave)
