Pros

Great teamwork environment on some OB units. Unit culture is encouraging for new employees and new to career on Postpartum while Labor and Delivery leaves much to be desired. Generally staff nurses are supportive when charge is unavailable. Lots of educational support with nurse educator.

Cons

Mandatory call for specialty is 18 hours per schedule. Call may be served on a sister unit where RN does not have experience. Charge RN on some units are expected to take a full/partial assignment; this offers less support to staff nurses. RN floating to units outside specialty/area of knowledge. High turnover in management positions. Less PTO accrual than competitors. Shift differential is less than competitors. PRN staff does not get raises.

Management is terrible

Pros

Good pay, mileage, hours, coworkers were nice,

Cons

Management is the worst I’ve ever experienced in my life. Completely disorganized, never on the same page, they are very, very rude and disrespectful when talking to you. They have never done your job so when they attempt to coach you it’s difficult because they have never done the job they are coaching you on. Micromanaging is out of control, It’s a shame because if mercy could have some good management it wouldn’t be that bad of a place to work

Pros

Paid holidays and lunch can be pay roll deductible.

Cons

Managers have no experience and are tone deaf. The hospital is poorly run and currently have a pest control problem. Even though they claim to honor Catholic traditions leadership not only micromanages but continue to find issues with black and lower paid employees. I’ve been black all my life and these are some of the most racist people I deal with on a daily basis including the physicians.
