Oh, those group homes!

Pros

If, IF, there is a house manager in charge who is caring, and competent the clients will receive the best possible care. They do their best to keep the clients happy, healthy.

Cons

This is a for profit company, so what care the clients in the homes get is minimal. Basically, they keep them alive, and semi-functioning. They will spend as little money on the clients as possible, but enough to keep within the States policies. They only pay minimum wage to the direct care staff, so they hire what they can get. Race is a factor in the hiring process.

Pros

Some staff members were friendly and helpful. PTO and insurance benefits available.

Cons

Unrealistic expectations, backstabbing, poor hiring practices as far as background checks, favortisim, and the wages are not that great.

Pros

Rewarding experience to assist people who cannot do basic tasks for themselves Flexible schedule depending on which home you are assigned to, and whether or not your immediate supervisor cares that you have other obligations

Cons

No raises No bonuses (Christmas or otherwise) No incentives Demanding work/ High expectaions Low pay (<20% above minimum wage) Management has horrible communication skills Seniority means nothing (everyone paid and treated the same) Hard to move up in company despite education & experience (it's not what you know, it's who you know) Turnover rate is high
