Pros

It is a really fun environment to work in. Residents and associates treat you like family. Everyday its laughs and fun.

Cons

Managers and directors have their picks. Your constantly being written up for small things. Directors are very disrepectful. Corporate doesn't do anything when you call them. Residents care is always being in jeopardy. Pay is awful.

Thank you for providing your feedback. As you mentioned, Brightview Senior Living aims to create a fun, family-like environment where residents and associates are valued and respected. We survey our residents and associates every year to identify areas of improvement, as well as conduct market studies to ensure that our pay scale is competitive. What you’ve described is not consistent with our mission and values. We would appreciate it if you would call our Human Resources representative at 410-962-0595 to provide us with more details.

Pros

The part time hours aren't bad, they give you a holiday bonus at the end of the year, and leftover food each night in dining.

Cons

They make you go to harassment training. I was harassed at work and when I reported it, I was told that I didn't have a say in what happened since I was only part time. They are nice at first. We were never trained on kitchen sanitation, the first night I got there, my trainer didn't even tell me to wash my hands. I've seen other employees pick up ice cream that fell on the floor and serve it to people.

Pros

On the positive side, Brightview offers better than average benefits, especially for PT workers; almost unheard of in today's workplace. Management, more so than other such companies, at least pays lip service to listening to employees. For the most part, there isn't the authoritarian heavy handedness and ruthlessness so prevalent in the 'caring" professions. Overall, the work environment is decent. Call outs aren't tolerated, a welcome change from most tertiary health care facilities.

Cons

Pay is below market and the company doesn't offer shift differentials. The corporate culture comes off almost as a cult; with endless retreats and pep rallies for managers that creates an us versus them of insiders versus outsiders. There is also a disturbing lack of diversity, with the majority of management middle-aged suburban white females, which acts as an informally exclusionary good old girls club. Front line staff are forced to carry the internal cell phones with them even on the unpaid lunch break, meaning many people work without getting paid for that half-hour since meal times are constantly disrupted with resident calls. Staff levels aren't always up to resident acuity,
