Clique's well established, you can only go so far. Difficult to participate in so many drinking based activities.

I think you hit the pro's pretty well. I'd of course add more but I'd be embellishing. As far as the cliques.. Difficult to understand, as that means so many different things to different people. Build is a tight knit community of passionate people. The work hard play hard mantra extends to lots of out of office activities. It is definitely department focused as you see IT hanging out with IT people and marketing people spending more time with marketing people, et cetera. If you didn't feel accepted by your department, I apologize for that and we can do better to be more inclusive.

Pros

I met some truly great people at Build.com

Cons

No job security as they fire as many people as they hire. Most of the supervisors have been employed with the company less than a year and therefore are not as helpful/knowledgeable as they should be. HR is a complete joke. If you want to succeed in this company you have to be a major brown noser

Guilty as charged. With over 600 people in Chico, we don't please all of the people all of the time, and its human nature to go out of your way to vet grievances. Glassdoor is a great place to do so. However, of those 600, there are a lot of people who are having a great time at Build.com and really think we're a premium employer ( myself included.) I told them that if they wanted to leave feedback please do! No arm twisting, no veiled threats, no "must be a positive review" talk. So yes, the positive reviews came pouring in. Of course they would, we really strive to make Build.com a great place to work. In fact, Glassdoor give me the ability to send their template out to everyone. I may do it again today. All that being said, it sounds like you are having a really poor experience here. The advice I can offer is that if you are in sales, and you are hitting really great sales numbers, there should be nothing stopping you from advancing and your job should be secure. If you are missing numbers, and looking for help from HR, its likely that sales may not be a department that suits you. Maybe you could apply for a role in data, marketing, or brand management? Thank you for the advice, but I'm unclear on what happened that effected you in a way that was negative? We are growing so we're always adding headcount and employees and I'm not quite clear on what people are worried about? If you are worried about your position because you are struggling with sales, as I mentioned, another department may be a better path for you. Regardless, we appreciate everything you do, and I hope you are able to communicate your concerns in a way that solves your grievances with Build.

Pros

The pay rate is ok They have free coffee in the break rooms. The other sales reps are in the same boat of debacle as you so you make good friends

Cons

They change your schedule whenever they like They don't have the inventory they claim on their site so you are dealing with a lot of angry customers The Freight companies they use delivery a lot of the items broken The Shipping companies they use forget to put handles in with the faucets so they deliver a lot of missing items with missing parts and you are the rep that takes the brunt of the customer's frustration. A lot of their items are backordered on the site making for long shipping delays. They change the goal structure from 50,000 per month to 60,000 month and will fire you if you don't hit it It is harder to hit the sales goal in post sales because in post sales calls you are dealing with very complex customer service issues that take a lot of time so it is hard to sell something when people aren't buying, but want you take care of their problems instead. You have to answer around 10 Sales requests via email a day as well as take a lot a calls a day and also try to follow up on your sales leads. You have to work through lunch at times, or during your break to keep up. When you do make sales they take a lot of them away or split them because another rep can say they were working with that person by showing you an emailed shopping cart. You also lose sales to people who own pros, or they don't transfer the sales call to you even though the clients asks for you specifically. They claim they will promote you to pre sales if your numbers are good, but really they are just dangling the carrot to hold out hope that one day you might get a better position if you bust. They listen in on your sales calls, telling you how to do your job, pressing you to sell more constantly.
