Pros

Working at build.com came with many perks. Weekly win friday's where beer is served at the end of your shift, casual and friendly co-workers who were always offering to help you learn the ropes, great benefits and other perks including quarterly awards, fiscal year parties, and provided lunch during busy times of the year.

Cons

This place is extremely cut throat and competitive. It is a sales based company, so if sales fall below goals then, you guessed it, bye-bye quarterly bonus. At the time this affected the entire company. They are no stranger to mass layoffs when mommy company tightens the belt around the waist line. The office is crowded, loud and can often be difficult to get any work done. Some office culture exists where favoritism out shines performance. Get in with the right group of people and you can find yourself getting out of the worst workplace situations you could think of. Lost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars? Not a problem if you're close with the right people.

Thank you for your response. I think you hit the nail on the head with the pro's you mentioned here. As far as your cons go, I wouldn't disagree that our sales environment can be tough. We manage by the numbers and if you can't consistently generate good numbers, it is difficult. It can also be loud and crowded depending on where you work. When you talk about favoritism vs performance, I can't say definitively that isn't always the case, however from all the promotions I've been involved in, its a meritocracy. We are very good here about forgiving mistakes in the event you "own it." If you hide out or cover up mistakes, or fail to claim responsibility, you are more likely to be treated harshly for a minor offense than coming clean for a major one. It is not a matter of who you know, but whether you communicate in advance rather than hide out. And while you see insourced management as a problem, I see it as a huge benefit, as we are a culture that promotes from within. Thank you for your feedback as it makes us better.

Yes and in sales yes. Its a tough environment for people coming new into sales, and we don't tell you different when we start. I'm sorry you didn't have a better experience here.

Thanks, glad you are enjoying your time here. Communication is a constant theme I hear here in regards to difficulties in understanding what is going on at any given time. Lots of management at Build are new to leadership roles and this feedback helps. We can do better. Thank you for your suggestion.
