Pros

If you want the experience or environment of working in a Bay Area-style tech company, one without the risk of failure you get with startup companies, Build.com is a perfect fit. Signs such as "Work Hard Play Hard", "No Good Comes From Hitting 'Reply-All'" and "If It's Really Funny, It's Probably Harassment" adorn the walls. The dress and the atmosphere are casual, the culture is young and dynamic, and the default expectation is growth.

Cons

Compensation is not what it would be in a larger city, though cost of living for Chico is commensurately lower as well. Rapid change can sometimes outpace the ability of the company to keep up with it. The first couple times the CEO walks by swearing and threatening to fire people can be unnerving.

Best place to work in Chico

Pros

Build.com is an aberration to the Chico area. The only business providing livable wages and career opportunities to college graduates on a large scale. The majority of employees are young, and most have drive and dedication to their jobs, which is the primary reason Build is able to grow quickly and maintain a high approval rate among customers.

Cons

If you're in a management position, you will probably be here for life. Many deserve the positions they've earned, but some have become complacent and lack the qualities of a good manager. One of the drawbacks to hiring most of your employees from one area would be the lack of exceptional talent you can bring in from larger markets.

Pros

Flexibility and a real "work hard/play hard" attitude. It's refreshing to be able to work at a place where I am treated like an adult.

Cons

Advancement gets toted as a common thing but doesn't happen quite as often as what its claimed to be
