Pros

Work life balance. This is genuinely great at Buildertrend! People are required to be in the office for 9 hours straight, and almost everyone leaves work right when they hit those 9 hours. Lots of "fun" perks (video games, free beer, etc). Your mileage may vary depending on how interested you are in this stuff. Modernizing tech stack - the company has prioritized converting from Web Forms to React in 2020, this will definitely pay off going forward.

Cons

The company seems to optimize around the convenience of a few long-tenured developers at the expense of everyone else. A couple examples: 1. To keep valued developers from having to investigate bug reports, they conscript new developers for 6-12 month stints on "triage". While on triage, developers aren't allowed to do any development (and then get docked in evals for a lack of big accomplishments). 2. Their favorite developers were still unhappy about being asked to develop fixes to bugs they introduced, so Buildertrend also established a "code health" team that gets to spend all of their day writing bug fixes for other peoples errors. This team is not allowed to talk to the developers who introduced these bugs, because Buildertrend doesn't want to "distract" their preferred devs. Poor career development - many developers have languished for several years without receiving promotions, even while receiving exclusively positive feedback from managers. It's unsurprising that as a result, lots of devs have checked out and spend half their day playing video games or watching YouTube. Buildertrend does a very poor job of motivating and incentivizing talented engineers. Only a select handful of devs are allowed to perform code reviews. These devs get overburdened and start auto-approving pull requests, ruining our code quality. Below average pay for Omaha (thus VERY below average pay by national standards).

Hello! We deeply appreciate your feedback, because it pushes us to do better. Our employees are encouraged to provide feedback through surveys, frequent check-ins and meetings with leaders. After all, we get our best ideas from our people. Based on employee feedback, we recently introduced a work-from-home policy and improved our personal day offerings to further ensure work-life balance. We are proud to have one of the most skilled Engineering teams in the Midwest. Because of our engineers, we’re able to improve our platform at an astronomical rate. But with every improvement comes the possibility of a bug that negatively impacts our customers. Our bug impact has decreased significantly over the past two years, all thanks to the Triage team. This dedicated team also gives entry-level developers the opportunity to grow their skills during their three month rotation. Buildertrend is not a place where you have to wait your turn to advance. In the past 18 months, 38% of employees have earned promotions in the Engineering division. As one of the fastest-growing companies in Omaha, new positions, roles and opportunities are constantly being created. We’re proud to be one of Omaha’s Best Places to Work, and we’ll always strive to do better. Thank you again for your feedback.

Pros

Great people to work with.

Cons

Lot of Legacy code with unwillingness to rewrite. Focused too much on making money by pushing features, and not writing good code.

Pros

casual dress at work is about the only pro. other then having a few friends that i knew prior.

Cons

cons. there are so many i do not know how i did not let these red flags leaving this company earlier. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE APPLYING!!!! +**I constantly got lied to and Promoted into a fairly high position and always got promised I would get the job title but they would never officially give it to me or a raise after they assumed me into the role. This is because " we can not give you a official job title or raise because We did not want to get HR involved this is because you were best fit for the position and people will get mad if you got a new title and they didn't have a chance to interview for it" If this is not taking advantage of employees expertise and knowledge and work efforts i don't know what is... not the company you want to work at. **** **also zero work life balance. I would get made fun of at work or talked to by my manager when i would not want to go to a bar and drink with my coworkers after work or on the weekends. the weekends and after work are for my friends and family. Work events are different, i would always attend those. one time a higher up sitting behind me was making fun of me in the middle of the work place for not going out drinking, and this was due to my dad having cancer surgery, so then instead of getting embarrassed in office i then had to explain out loud to the 20+ people sitting around me that my dad had cancer and he had surgery and i had to be with my family. work life balance my a@@. PTO is not work life balance.***** there moto is embrace the pace...... this means they really only care about making you feel forced to call to make 220 calls a day. all they care about is volume and not quality and quantity. the only manageable position in the company is a CSS role. always changing work flows up then changing them back. The lack of direct communication from upper management is horrible. They make it seem like they are communicating with you but they are truly snaking behind your back. I could write a whole book on how bad this company is. just go look at their reviews from their customers. from all their racist comments towards Hispanics to them causing scenes at airports. to the Drinking all day at work and bragging about it. and the upper management walking around with open cans of beers. all they truly care about is themselves. ill leave it at that. to any future people wanting to work here. please save yourself and apply to a real company.
