Pros

I have been here a long time and unless something changes, I am probably not going anywhere. I really enjoy what we do here, I like dealing with the variety of IT work and the opportunity to not only learn something new as well as have a say in how/what we do. Also the opportunity for our growth is really only limited by ourselves. This is kind of both a pro and a con, the salaries do start low but provided you stick around and prove your abilities they generally give great increases. Where we largely deal with county governments our business model is some what galvanized from the status of the economy. In other words even when the economy was slow we did not have to downsize. On a personal note, I have had some really hard times in my life and not only was BIS there for me, they went out of their way to support me. For that my family and I are deeply grateful.

Cons

There are stressful times, I am not going to lie, especially when trying to meet our customers deadlines. Like I mentioned in the Pros section, salaries do start low but they greatly improve over time.

Pros

Opportunity to travel, see the state, and meet new people continuously. The work is constant. You won't be bored. Small company where you have access to leadership. Leadership knows you by name. They provide a good technical service and top notch customer service.

Cons

Extremely low pay. Period. The lowest I've ever seen for this type of specialized technical work. Requiring an undergraduate degree for a position and then paying only $20,000 per year is just not appropriate at all. The job can be high stress and requires travel up to a week at a time or more. That's not a bad thing except that you aren't compensated appropriately. Very little opportunity to move either vertically or horizontally within the organization.

Pros

Good people, relaxed environment, and you won't be bored

Cons

Limited room to move up, transferring departments rarely possible, you can be let go for giving a two week's notice, will likely travel for extended periods, pay is low for comparable work, having a degree is generally required but you might not be working in your field, application specialist can be high stress as you're essentially help desk for many different counties with many variations of the same program, hard to gain traction with management
