Pros
-The hours are largely convenient middle of the day shifts 3pm-9pm M-TH and 9am-5pm Sat. You'll always have your mornings free. -Since you're working directly with students with relatively short, concentrated lesson plans, any time you're at work, you're tutoring. There's none of the being stuck at work, but having no work to do that comes with a 9 to 5. Interactions with parents are largely handled by the Center Directors, which means you can concentrate on working with the students. -Other tutors are friendly and easy to work with. -Students are largely respectful and receptive. There are moments of frustration, but for the most part I really enjoy interacting with my students, and since the class sizes are so small and clients buy large blocks of hours--as opposed to purchasing appointment by appointment--it's easy to develop a rapport with the students. -The C2 study materials make it easy to develop lesson plans and keep students progressing. -Part time tutors were just recently given the opportunity to access an employee healthcare plan.
Cons
-Pay is competitive, but slightly on the lower end for a professional tutor, even one that works out of centralized location. -Your hours are assigned based on the appointments students make, so there can be substantial variation from week to week. -It can sometimes be difficult to be scheduled for as many hours as you might like, particularly during periods of down time during the school year, or around the holidays. This can be both a blessing and a curse.
