Pros

1) The job is pretty easy to pick-up. There is (mostly) online training that helps you get familiar with how the company operates. At my center, we also have observations where you follow a more experienced teacher to pick up some best practices (I say this as a someone who is shadowed quite often). It should be noted that there is an observation portion of the official training, but we tend to go above and beyond depending on the comfort level of the trainee. 2) The students themselves are mostly awesome. I've fostered some unforgettable relationships with many of my students. The motivated and engaging students have a contagious energy that makes you want to help them succeed (and tolerate the not-so-good students as well). 3) Pretty flexible work hours. Easy to maintain a work-life balance with this job. Currently, I do this job for extra cash as I do work full-time elsewhere. I've also grown quite close with my colleagues.

Cons

1) While the job is easy to pickup, the online training actually doesn't give that much insight. The irony is that it emphasizes adaptability while trying to promote an almost robotic step-by-step process to follow (using an acronym called SWEAR ... I think). Needless to say, I DON'T follow that method. This is largely a non-issue at my center since, again, we have shadowing of more experienced teachers. 2) You'll see in the online training (as well as other reviews) that C2 operates at a 3:1 teaching ratio. This was hectic in-person, but largely manageable. Online, however, this system is terrible. It's impossible to give students equal time, especially when they all need extensive support simultaneously. The students themselves don't like working in this way, and it's gotten a lot harder to pick up new students (I say this as someone who is often selected to work with trial students and can attest anecdotally that not as many trial students opt to stick with C2 virtually as opposed to in-person). C2 says it's been adaptable during the pandemic, and it largely has, but it has to accept that there's no way every aspect of the in-person learning system can be ported over to the online platform. It's no secret that the company isn't doing as well as it was pre-pandemic, and I have no doubt that this loss can be attributed to the fact that students don't want to be part of a learning system that entails taking a paid 2-hour session and realistically only getting 30-35 minutes out of it (it's already actually cut down to 1 hour and 50 minutes). 3) Because of how easy it is to get/maintain the job, the quality of teachers will vary vastly. There are some teachers that I'm proud to call colleagues and then others whose knowledge base I strongly question. As a top percentile scorer on the SAT/ACT, I have doubts with the company's supposed Office of Educational Excellence's understanding of standardized testing.
