Pros

It's a great place to start. The interview process is kind of a joke. If you know how to BS your way though an interview you'll be fine. This is despite the fact they claim that 1 in 11 gets hired. You'll make nothing your first year and a half. Then you'll be around 50k for a year and a half. After that the sky is the limit. You really get what you put in to it. The perks aren't bad - although they are deteriorating quickly. Health bennifets are becoming more expensive, spiffs are declining, and the days are getting longer...

Cons

You can't make decent money until you've put in a good amount of work. Even then it's really 50/50. They have a CDW aristocracy. People who have been there for more then 5 years are treated differently than people who've come since Edwardson took over. Don't ever expect to be a part of the old boys club. Promotions are few and far between. Career development is very self driven. There is very little direction in the company. There are a lot of random metrics that don't really mean anything. It's getting really difficult to deal with the day to day BS that comes from upper management. When the sales managers don't believe in the activities they are asked to have their team complete - there is something wrong.

Pros

CDW is a profitable company. We have great health benefits and other perks such as Coworker appreciation day at Great America and our annual backbone party. They also give away turkeys and pies during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Even in a down economy, we have still received our profit-sharing which was broken up between two quarters. There is definitely the desire by management to continue to make CDW one of the best companies to work for.

Cons

It is difficult to make lateral moves to other departments. There is a disparity between perks received by sales as opposed to the sales support depts.

Pros

The ability to determine your own career path. Many people complain about the amount of pressure put on account managers to perform. I'll admit its not something I relish but it is good for CDW and more importantly me. The push for higher performance will directly effect my ability to sell and then get paid more. So if they are pushing me to do more and I get more out of it how can I complain.

Cons

Its a tough place to try and work the required minimum shift. You really need more time to get the job done right. This would be less of a problem if I didn't live so far from work. That is my decision though so again not CDW's problem. This being said the whole work/life balance is tough for me to achieve.
