Not Your Mom's CDW

Pros

The Work-Life Balance is real if you want it to be: People here really work to live and not the other way around. There's no in-fighting, and drama is at a minimum- although that may depend on the department you work for. Lots of career options - once you're in, you're in & you can explore new roles every one to two years. There is a lot of change and new opportunities are always coming around. Management wants you to be your best - and that means constant education opportunities and constant opportunities for growth outside of Sales. That includes Tuition Reimbursement, Management Training, and lots of opportunities for and access to technical training. There is a lot of diversity in experience, culture, etc. and it's strongly encouraged and sought after.

Cons

Lots of Career Options mean you may not feel like you actually have a career and some roles don't have a clear career trajectory. It's easy to flounder in a role if your manager isn't helping you and you aren't taking advantage of the internal programs. It's very easy to get lost in the massive organization that is CDW - Especially with remote work. Compensation is perpetually lower in every future role if you come into the organization at a lower pay rate - a common understanding is that you have to leave & come back to get competitively compensated. Lots of Chaos right now. There's been a lot of growth in the pre-sales department through acquisitions and there's a strong sentiment that the organizations we've acquired are making more of the decisions than the OG Leadership - it feels like a hostile takeover. The companies we've acquired aren't participating in CDW culture and that messaging is coming from the leadership level - the general sentiment is that their leaders have no respect for traditional CDW knowledge or experience. These acquisitions have changed the culture of CDW and not necessarily for the better. Part of that culture change is a result of more WFH during/post-pandemic, but the vibe really changed in just the last year - there's drama where there didn't used to be.

Losing Their Way

Pros

Hard working coworkers and that generally eager to help Engineering Team is great to work with

Cons

Management doesn’t listen to lower level employees. Loyalty is not rewarded. Job promotions and moves are based off the buddy system and nepotism. Raises are abysmal despite “record profits”. Company takes away bonus and incentives just to two months later buy another company.
