Pros

This is the most tolerant company I have ever worked for. The fact is they do not care what color your skin is, what color your hair is, if you have piercings, tattoos, what gender you are etc... You have a place at COPS. They only care about what is in your heart. Do you have compassion for others? Can you help save lives? Can you work as a part of a team? There are 2 ladies running one of the shifts who are in biracial relationships and have biracial children. One of these children was a long standing Lead/Supervisor for nearly 3 years until they stepped down to pursue other things. Another high ranking person at this site is also in a biracial relationship with another man. I have seen multiple members of the LGBTQ community hired here and do very well for themselves. The fact of the matter is there all people from all walks of life working together here and we are all given the same opportunities to advance. The management team is very well liked. They are honest and upfront with information. They lay out a plan for your advancement and stick to it. They even offer for you to skip levels if you are doing well enough. When they look for a Supervisor they are very particular about attendance, attitude, and you skill set. Most people who go out for a higher position are lacking in the attendance category. This is why I was not chosen. However, the manager took the time to explain why it is important and gave me goals to work on to better myself and hopefully get a chance to go out for the next opening. You have to be open to criticism and looking to better yourself. This job is what you put into it.

Cons

The pay is mediocre. Of course I would like to see it higher, but it is manageable to live off of if your single. Management sometimes gives poor performers or poor attitudes too much time to adjust. They should be taken care of sooner. For example there was a Supervisor who was demoted who really made things terrible on shift. She would basically force people to forfeit their breaks and she would still take hers. She had a little following who still try and make life difficult for others. One of those followers thank goodness is gone. She was allowed to leave the room multiple times to spend time with her boyfriend outside while the rest of us carried her workload. She would always roll her big bug eyes at you and try to intimidate other people who were going out for the Supervisor position. What terrible human beings they were. Hopefully with the change of Supervisor on this shift more positivity is on the horizon.

Pros

To say that I've had an amazing experience working at COPS would be an understatement. I started off as an entry level alarm dispatcher with no previous experience in the industry, leaving an established job in retail for the chance to try out something new. At first, I was a bit nervous, having never worked as a dispatcher before, but the training program is set up in such a way that you will be completely comfortable and knowledgeable by the end of it. Having face-to-face training with an experienced dispatcher, rather than computer based quizzes, was nice because it felt like the training was personalized to my learning style. A lot of companies promise advancement opportunities, but make it nearly impossible to earn them. Not COPS. Management quickly recognized my abilities, and over the years, I have held the titles of shift lead, shift supervisor, and assistant site manager (each a promotion over the last). It was an amazing feeling to know that they believe in growing their employees and promoting from within. Having worked there for nearly 4 years now, I can truly say they believe in taking care of their employees. The benefits package (medical, dental, and vision) is more affordable and competitive than any company I've ever worked for. There are also a lot of other benefits (401K w/ company match, tuition reimbursement, quarterly trips for higher level dispatchers, AAA membership, life insurance, gym membership reimbursement; just to name a few), which you don't typically find elsewhere. We also receive weekly pay, quarterly bonuses, and birthday cards from our president and CEO. There is an extravagant holiday party at the end of the year, which all of us start getting excited about from January onward! Okay, I don't even know if "extravagant" does the party justice. It is an insanely good time. Food, prizes, dancing, drinks, games, and did I mention PRIZES? I would like to add that I feel lucky to work with such exceptional talent, starting from the dispatchers all the way up to upper management. It is amazing to be able to watch the dispatchers interact with customers, and knowing that they are potentially saving lives each day. I've had the opportunity to meet the vice presidents, executives, president, and CEO, and they are such friendly, welcoming people. Working at COPS, I truly feel like I'm a part of a family. They have helped me grow so much, professionally and personally, and I have learned and accomplished things I never imagined were possible.

Cons

I've not had any "con" experiences working at COPS.
