Great learning experience, but not somewhere I'd want to stay to develop my career.
Pros
This is the largest privately owned central station in the country and it continues to grow. Training for the dispatchers is thorough as is the training for the data entry department. Cross training helps everyone understand the company's standards and mission. Quick response time is paramount and they do a good job. The EVP of this company is one of the most professional people I have met. He is intelligent and manages to off-set the lack of professionalism of the president and other management/departments. In my opinion, he is the reason for the continued success of this company.
Cons
Since the pay is not very competitive, this company attracts the younger crowd. Most of the higher level positions are offered first to current employees, so the maturity level and professionalism is generally lacking and is maintained by this promotion process. Dispatchers who have no corporate/business training eventually fill the positions in other departments and management roles and are supervised by other "home-grown" employees, perpetuating this cycle. As a result, there tends to be unhealthy competition and a "My department is better than yours" mentality, often causing unnecessary conflict and a lack of team work. This may be a good first job, but not a good career choice. The president of the company tends to be unprofessional himself (even making inappropriate sexual remarks).
