Toxic workplace with a white bro culture and no clear vision

Pros

1. You learn more about the industry. 2. Work/life balance is fairly good.

Cons

1. COTA rewards those who engage in a sexist bro culture and pretends not to be a discriminatory workplace. Males, especially white males, are hired with inflated titles and then rapidly advance with minimal to no evidence to support that their promotion is deserved. Meanwhile, all of the women I know who have either asked for a promotion or been in the running for one have had to defend their capabilities extensively, deal with attitude bordering on harassment in response to that, and/or been talked out of their promotions/told they don't deserve one. Management refuses to acknowledge there is any inherent bias in their promoting/hiring but it's clearly there. 2. COTA rewards those who can publicly exaggerate their abilities to overcompensate for the fact that they have made barely any contributions of their own over those who work hard and add real value but don't have the ego to toot their own horn. Hard workers will not thrive in this workplace when so many others are coasting by with minimal effort. There are people with leadership positions here who would be barely entry level at any other company due to not meeting the required skill set for their position. 3. COTA allows several people with leadership positions (and questionable leadership abilities) to work remotely almost full-time, when their teams have no direction. You'd think the company would prioritize having strong leaders onsite to repair the clearly failing company culture but instead they are doing the exact opposite.

Great Changes Afoot

Pros

There have been lots of great changes here in the last 6 months. The culture is exciting. New people are joining. Much clearer sense of mission. I've been here more than 1 years (among the few!) and seen lots of change. The quality of team is rising as the company seems to be taking off. Lots of excitement.

Cons

There have been plenty of ups and downs. Original management (no longer here) couldn't really keep up (some were/are great people). Change caused chaos. Hope it keeps improving.

Toxic Management Team

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Good work/life balance. That's about it.

Cons

New management is focused on cronyism and hierarchy. Patronizing and bullying personalities hired directly into leadership roles. Process over productivity. Lead engineers love meetings even more than they love themselves. Sales team seems unable to find it's feet despite clear utility of product. Older, out-of-date programming frameworks are replacing modern ones due to managerial fear of the unknown.
