Absence of clear vision and shared goals from senior management
Pros
Work/life balance is great at AAA. Love the people I work with. Very smart and dedicated to our Members. Compared to other places I've worked, this is also a very humane company with good values and a strong respect for individuals.
Cons
Senior management does not have a clear vision for the Enterprise. This translates into an inability to decide what goals are most important AND what they are willing to sacrifice to get it (ie prioritization of goals). As a result there are no shared goals and we end up having to fight cross-functional partners for attention and support. Senior management is way too reactive. Any time a long-time Member complains about anything, they freak out and make snap decisions without regard for implications or the needs of the Membership as a whole. There is way too much reliance on outside consultants. This reflects very poor, non-strategic hiring and training efforts. It is also insulting to current employees. Consultants are hired because they "have greater credibility with the Board." There is also way too much reliance on reorganizations (probably as a result of the paragraph above). There isn't enough responsibility being taken at the top of the company for performance - and their solutions always seem to re-organize. This is driving low moral, significant spinning and will result in brain-drain as economy improves.
