      Succeeding in spite of itself, but will die in 5 to 7 years.

      Pros

      Nice vacation time benefit, nice place to learn the basics of insurance. Gives people with disabilities a chance to work which is great.

      Cons

      Technological dinasaur, constant redressing of issues over and over. The denial of the obvious, they have results that they though would not happen, but everyone on the floor could have told it would not work out and when it does not they are suprised. Many of my managers have very little business experience so the place is run like a giant social welfare program. A very risk averse culture which is killing them from succeding.

      CSAA provides fair hours and compensation, but you probably won't find it stable or fulfilling professionally.

      Pros

      Good work life balance. Relatively low stress environment with competitive compensation.

      Cons

      Politics dictate promotions - especially at the senior management and executive levels. Lack of clear and consistent strategic direction. The company changes its direction constantly and it is very difficult to keep up with the change. The company reorganizes its management and department structure constantly (especially in Insurance). Hiring choices at the managment level are often times suspect, and then the company doesn't have the guts to cut the dead weight once they've got it. They recently laid off a large number of people and did cut some of these people, but much more is necessary to truely become more efficient.

      Pros

      Mission of company is very worthwhile, especially ERS. And employees (at least most of them) try to do a good job with the tools they are given. And the quality and intelligence of the Board of Directors has improved significantly in the last 10 years.

      Cons

      Lack of commitment to stated vision and values of the company. Senior managment is not living up to those values in how they run the company. Senior management is too insular and doesn't listen to feedback of employees is regard to behavior of senior executives. Board of Directors needs to hold senior executives accountable for performance.
