      Computer Sciences -- Not many corporations like this anymore.

      Pros

      CSC is a very large, well established and conservative company. Within their corporate image, they are very accomodating. They have a lot of infrastructure and are very supportive of their core competencies.

      Cons

      At the same time, they *are* a large, conservative company. If you are *not* deemed within their core profit competency, they are quick to marginalize at the first sign of a downturn. Their bureaucracy is labyrinthine, and very slow to move. They have very little interest in innovation; the company grows its products by acquisition, not R&D.

      Pros

      CSC, in Appleton anyway, is very family orientated. Family first. If my child is sick or the school calls, CSC doesn't even question if you have to leave to take care of business. They just tell you to go and take care of it. Sick days and vacation days are accrued and if you don't use them, they carry over the next year. The benefits are very good but the 401K plan is limited.

      Cons

      Downside to working for CSC is that there is no room for advancement unless you are willing to relocate. Starting pay isn't very good. They give annual raises but they aren't all that high either. They want to hire a lot of interns to minimize the amount of pay they give there regular employees. Other downside include bad politics and lack of communication

      Pros

      Great benefits and career opportunities. Many different organizations and positions available to jump around in. Very helpful management and peers in my organization. Employee outings and spot awards. Very good with recognition and feedback on your performance. Strong communication between employees, overall great work atmosphere in CSC.

      Cons

      Pay scale is awful, annual performance review is done poorly and contributes nothing to your raise. Raises are given out as a systematic % by corporate and your performance plays virtually no part in this. Lotus Notes and databases are outdated and buggy, support for many of these is severely lacking. Promotions hard to come by.
