Pros

The culture as a whole is positive...teams will work well together. But I find that most project teams always seem to complain about management of the project. PM's have difficulty getting on the same page with clients. The pay is comparitively lousy and the promotion and progression process is generally not accepted among employees. The wrong people get promoted while others work their tail off. Then when you do get promoted you get little if any raise. On a side note they recently started back a bonus program albeit a very weak one.

Cons

Project managers mismanage projects and the workers pay for it.

Pros

CSC offers decent benefits, such as vacation, 401K, medical, pension, etc. The company also reimburses $15K per year toward education, which is huge compared to most other companies. I was able to get my masters from the top school because of this benefit. CSC is a consulting company servicing many different clients. Although it is somewhat difficult, as an employee you have an option to move between accounts. You can investigate and find the best team/culture that fits your needs. Another positive in such mobility is being able to gain different kinds of IT experience across many industries without having to leave the company.

Cons

The company is HUGE, which means the compensation increases are slow and the promotions have to be approved by many layers of management. Even if you are ranked as a superstar during the review, the increase is likely to be very conservative. The official explanation -- we all perform like stars, this is CSC way. Different branches of CSC and different accounts within those branches vary significantly, but within my unit of GTS I have seen people treated like commodities way too often. I have seen star performers leave because they did not get the recognition they were promised and deserved. I have seen people being asked to work weekends and holidays for 4 months in a row to cover mismanagement issues. Since most of the work is done at the client site, the upper management is offsite, unaware and uninvolved. The big wigs show up when bad things happen and send in the troops in the form of more managers. Bottom line, very little praise for good things, major beatings for bad things. Obviously the morale is not too high. Overall, the management structure sucks and unless you are very good at politics, you will not get the credit you deserve.

Pros

The people I work with are some of the best in the industry. They are competent. They are respectful to each other. This also comes across from the management group. Respect is key and they try to maintain that in their culture.

Cons

Management does not communite sufficiently to the employees. Other than the details of the project we may be on, none of us know what is happening back at the office in terms of new business and proposals in the pipeline. It makes us wonder especially in these lean times.
